In 1981 Leon Hurd contracted us to restore his old
1963 Corvette Z06 racer. This was a special car. Gulf Oil sponsored two
1963 Corvettes to race SCCA in 1963. One driven by Dick Thompson and the
other by Grady Davis. At the time they were eaten up by Cobras. Leon purchased
the one owned by Grady Davis in December, 1963. By then the Cobras were
reclassified and Leon scored big for the next several years. His biggest
fan, Katherine, his wife photographed every event. Katherine's photographs
enabled us to restore number 38 back to its original racing configuration
nearly twenty years later. Leon still competes with the car in vintage
racing events across the country and occasionally in Europe ............
and still wins.
